ORRICK CARES PROGRAM PARTNERS WITH THE CHILD CREATIVITY LAB FOR CREATIVITY WORKSHOPS FOR CHILDREN IN SANTA ANA

ORANGE COUNTY, CALIFORNIA (July 24, 2014) – On Friday, July 18, the Orange County office of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP celebrated its 150th birthday with over 80 children from the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Ana. The law firm’s “Orrick Cares” program sponsored a day of workshops offering educational and meaningful play for children as they designed and created personalized art pieces, called “PlasTikobots”, made from reclaimed single-use plastics, all while fostering creativity needed for problem-solving, critical thinking, and the ability to innovate. Orrick partnered with the Child Creativity Lab’s Museum-on-Wheels program for the environmentally-friendly creative reuse workshops.

To assist with the day’s programs, attorneys and staff from Orrick took a break from their day-to-day work to help children express their own creative mindset, man the glue gun stations, spray paint the foundation coat for the mini-robots, and distribute pizza, fruits and drinks to the children and hardworking staff at the center. Said Orrick Global Chairman and CEO Mitch Zuklie, “Orrick Cares is about giving all of us the opportunity to get involved in celebrating our firm's 150th anniversary - by giving back to our communities together. It is also a fun and memorable way to spend time with colleagues and clients outside of the office.”

Orrick’s sponsorship and cadre of volunteers made for a fun and memorable event for the kids, ranging in ages 6 - 13. "It was neat to watch our club members be amazed by what they can do with recycled materials. Our members were involved in a great hands-on activity that allowed them to engineer their own robots, and it opened their eyes to a new world of learning and recreational play,” said Peter Perez, Unit Director at the main Santa Ana club site.

The event was also supported by volunteers from the Santa Ana Kohl’s Associates in Action Program. Kohl’s has been a consistent and important supporter of the Child Creativity Lab Museum-on-Wheels program with volunteer support in 2014. In addition, every child at the center received a book complimentary of the Kohl’s community program.

ABOUT THE CHILD CREATIVITY LAB
The Child Creativity Lab (CCL) is a planned specialty children's museum that will nurture the creative mindset of our children in the headwinds of the busy lifestyles of working parents, the consuming technology culture of our youth, and standardized testing. The CCL vision is to inspire children to challenge their comfort levels and thereby raising their potential for personal development and contributions to society.

This not-for-profit children's museum is set to open in 2017 and will feature a spacious facility unique for its eclectic array of guided and self-directed creative development stations and exhibits that are safe, hands-on, purposeful, and yet fun, engaging, and similar in excitement level and entertainment value of jump houses and other "pure-play" amusement centers. These experiential activities will center on building creativity, divergent thinking, problem solving, and ability to innovate.

The Child Creativity Lab is fiscally sponsored by Charitable Ventures of Orange County, a 501(c)(3). For general information, visit www.childcreativitylab.org.
