MLK Jr. “Create Unity and Hope” Day of Service 2017!

On Monday, January 16, the Child Creativity Lab partnered with Anaheim Independencia Family Resource Center to host its first-ever “Create Unity and Hope” Service Event in honor of the Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service. In an effort to inspire and show support within the local community, we united 26 individuals from around Orange County to create over 30 unique robot friends as uplifting gifts to children of disadvantaged backgrounds!

Each personalized robot was created out of reusable plastic waste collected from the volunteers’ own homes. Using their creativity and an abundant amount of hot glue, the volunteers assembled and spray-painted a total of 32 personalized robotic figures. In addition, the robots were accompanied by inspirational hand-written messages from the volunteers who made them. The completed robots were then given to the children of Anaheim Independencia F.R.C.’s After-School Youth Program as symbols of hope and support. Each child had the opportunity to take home one special robot friend.

The Child Creativity Lab is proud to have been a part of this special event with Community Action Partnership of Orange County’s Anaheim Independencia Family Resource Center. We would like to thank the individuals and organizations that attended our event, including La Quinta High School Kiwin’s, Cerritos High School National Honor Society, and Fullerton College Queer People of Color.

Last but not least, none of this would have been possible without the incredible support from our community partners:
