In the last couple of months, we were fortunate enough to partner up with the OC Rescue Mission's Village of Hope Campus for a number of youth programs.
Starting off in the middle of Summer, one of our valued Business partners in the community, Allen Packaging, asked if we would join them in providing a memorable experience at the OC Rescue Mission's 4th Annual "Christmas in July" program. And how could we say "no" to that?! It was our first visit to their campus, and we had an amazing time with the Allen Packaging staff in having the approximately 70 resident children create their own aerodynamic flying contraptions and experimenting with how they reacted to air in our Wind Tunnel. Other champions in the community that took part supporting the event included Chic-fil-A, Target, and Kohl's.
We subsequently followed that up with a couple of Field Trips for the kids to visit our Child Creativity Lab Depot for Creative Reuse Center. These were more intimate workshops, which allowed for us to spend additional one-on-one time with each child. We facilitated the Zip Line STEM challenge for the older elementary and middle school students, and the Super Tower STEM challenge for the younger elementary school students. The kids were enthusiast, engaged, and excited to bring home their creations!
And, fortunately, it didn't stop there! We were able to find out that they have a need and a desire for materials for their on-site educational programs, run by Concordia University. That was music to our ears, as we immediately allocated one of our Reusable Materials Scholarships to provide them with free access to our materials throughout the 2016-2017 school year!
These were some of the most fulfilling experiences of our organization and staff, and an opportunity to put a smile on the faces of these wonderful kids that are going through a transition of change. We look forward to working with them for years to come!
